Founder & Managing Partner
Fernando Baz
Fernando Baz is the Founder and Managing Partner of Strat.exe, a specialist strategy-execution and Balanced Scorecard consulting firm based in Johannesburg and operating across Southern Africa since 2010.
He holds an MBA from IESE Business School in Barcelona and a degree in Economics from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He began his career at Accenture before spending seven years with the consulting firm founded by Professors Robert Kaplan and David Norton — the originators of the Balanced Scorecard — where he implemented the strategy-execution model for public and private organisations across a range of industries and countries. He is a certified Kaplan-Norton Balanced Scorecard Bootcamp trainer.
For almost thirty years he has advised executive teams on strategy definition, translation, cascading and management. His clients span banking, mining, energy, insurance and the public sector, and include Standard Bank, Old Mutual, Exxaro, Sasol, Gold Fields and the Development Bank of Southern Africa, alongside regional engagements such as the Eswatini Electricity Company and the Central Bank of Eswatini.
He is Adjunct Faculty in Strategy Execution at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS), where he teaches on the MBA and the MPhil in Corporate Strategy, and has spoken alongside Professor Kaplan at the Africa Strategy Execution Conference. Most recently he has extended the strategy-execution toolset to the challenge of sustainability strategy, now a core part of Strat.exe's advisory and training work.
